General Information
Who does Harmony Heights serve?
Harmony Heights is a therapeutic day school for girls in grades 8-12 who have emotional needs that cannot be adequately met in a traditional high school setting. We provide a structured, supportive environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Where is Harmony Heights located?
We are located in East Norwich, New York, and we accept students from all across Long Island and all five boroughs of NYC.
How is Harmony Heights different from a traditional high school?
Our program integrates education with emotional and social support. In addition to the New York State Regents diploma program, we offer individual and group counseling, a team of school psychologists and social workers, and a small, nurturing learning environment.
Academics and School Policies
What type of diploma do students receive?
Students at Harmony Heights work toward a New York State Regents or Local diploma. All coursework is aligned with state standards and is fully transferable to a student’s home district if they return. Depending on a student’s fulfilled credits prior to enrollment at Harmony Heights, they may also be eligible for an Advanced Regents Diploma.
Are cell phones allowed at school?
Harmony Heights has a no-phones policy during the school day to help students focus and engage in their education. However, we have recently begun allowing supervised phone use for some students at certain times of the day based on individual needs and progress.
Do students have to attend the summer program?
Yes, all students are required to attend our summer program, which helps them stay on track academically (via credit recovery courses) and prevents regression. The summer session also includes special fun and engaging courses that are not offered during the school year.
Therapeutic Support
What therapeutic services does Harmony Heights provide?
We offer individual and group counseling, as well as social-emotional learning support from a team of school psychologists and social workers. We also provide specialized therapeutic programs like a therapy dog and peer support initiatives.
Do students receive outside therapy as well?
While we provide school-based counseling, many students continue working with their outside therapists and psychiatrists. We collaborate with families and providers to ensure a comprehensive support system for each student.
Admissions and Enrollment
How do students enroll at Harmony Heights?
Students are referred to us by their home district’s Committee on Special Education (CSE). If you’re a parent interested in learning more about placement, we encourage you to reach out to us directly. Our Director of Clinical Services is happy to answer your questions, provide detailed information about our program, and help you better understand how to navigate the referral process with your district. We’re here to support families and collaborate with districts to find the right fit for each student. Additionally, we hold monthly informational sessions where families can meet with staff, tour the building, and further discuss the referral process.
Is there a cost for parents to enroll their child?
No, there is no cost to parents. Tuition and transportation are covered by the student’s home school district.
Can students return to their home district?
Yes! After a 1-year commitment here at Harmony, students may transition back to their home school district when they feel ready. We provide transitional counseling to help students make the adjustment successfully.
